Color Comparison – Celebration Bermuda versus Empire

Color Comparison – Celebration Bermuda versus Empire

We wanted to give an example of the color difference between Celebration Bermuda and Empire and it just so happens that we have both of these grasses next to each other in our office yard and our neighbors yard.  We aren't saying one is better than the other and there are different reasons for using one or the other but we just wanted to show the BIG difference in color. The grass in the foreground in the picture below is Empire and Celebration is in the background. Keep in mind that the Celebration in this picture is mowed probably every 3 days with a reel mower.  Homeowners typically have rotary mowers and probably won't want to mow that often either.  Celebration doesn't have to be mowed with a reel mower and doesn't have to be mowed every 3 days but this particular yard is maintained that way so just wanted you to be aware of that. They are both excellent grasses that we...

Another Frost

We had another cold night last night. The temperature got down around 34 degrees. That's not a problem for the grass really except that we also had a frost on the ground! Frost is what takes the color out of the grass this time of year. Our grass was much greener until we got a couple of frosts on February 14th and 15th. Those two frosts really knocked a lot of the color out of our grass.  And then with the frost last night it just keeps the grass brown and dormant and will take longer for it to be real green. The grass will really start to grow once the temps at night can stay above 60 degrees. Just wanted to give an update on how the grass is coming along.  Thanks for checking in with us!...

Okay so that's not from this year but December 2009, so not too long ago.  That was fun! We will be closed Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th for the Christmas Holidays!  We hope you are able to take a couple of days off and spend some quality time with your family too! So when we close this Friday the 21st, we won't be harvesting any grass until Wednesday morning.   You can put your orders in for Wednesday but just know we won't have any available early that morning! We will also be closed Monday the 31st, and Tuesday, January 1st, for the New Year's Holidays.  Thank you and have a safe and happy holiday!...

An Old Friend

An Old Friend

Yesterday we said goodbye to an old friend.  We purchased this forklift in 1979 and it has been a workhorse for us!  It has had some trouble over the years but we always were able to fix it and get it back to work.  It has some transmission problems now and just isn't worth the money to fix it so we had to put it out to pasture. We delivered it to Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers for their upcoming auction on November 14th & 15th.  We told them about the transmission problem and they will probably put it in their salvage section.  It does run and goes forward but only sometimes reverses!  We put a new transmission in it before and a new engine once, maybe twice; it's hard to remember.  But it was a great piece of equipment!  We'll miss you Ol' Yeller! ...

Discovery Bermudagrass On A Zero Energy House

Discovery Bermudagrass On A Zero Energy House

Last week we took some Discovery Bermudagrass to a couple of new houses in Independence Heights. These houses are being built to use LESS energy than they GENERATE and USE!  The extra energy created will be sold back to the utility company.  It's a great idea and hopefully more of these are coming in the future.  You can get more info on the houses themselves at thezeroenergyhome.com.  We should have Discovery Bermudagrass available to the general public in the Summer of 2013. Below are some pictures of the Discovery on pallets prior to being installed and then a couple after installation.  The reason they're using this grass on these energy efficient homes is because Discovery Bermudagrass will require 50% less mowing! ...
